UFOs

On our last night in LA we stayed at a hotel near the airport.  Our window overlooked part of the runway and I caught some slow shutter blurs of planes as they landed.

Super annoying to listen to all night, but beautiful to watch.

Going back to Cali

Quick iphone photos taken from our weekend trip out to Los Angeles.

Bill and I spent a year after we graduated Brooks living in downtown LA. It was one of the hardest years I've ever had and at the end of it I couldn't wait to leave. We went back to LA this past weekend for work and stayed a few days longer. I was surprised at how much I had missed it and how nostalgic it made me feel (of course I don't think about the bad times now.) I wish we could've stayed longer, there were still so many places we wanted to go to. But we got to see our friends and hit up our favorite places: Melrose Flea Market, The Getty, In-N-Out, and Griffith Park. It was a great trip but i'm happy to be back in Austin.

A Look Back

I spent this last weekend going through a bunch of my old negatives and prints from photo school. (I went HERE) This top photo is the first picture I EVER took of Bill. I dragged him out to the middle of this field – with a lot of dead branches apparently – with my 4x5 camera and took his portrait. We weren't really friends yet just acquaintances and all I remember is that we talked almost the whole time about hurricanes. (When we talked about it later that's all he remembers too) Looking back was fun but glad I never have to cut mattes ever again.

SXSW 2012

SXSW 2012 was a whirlwind of panels, music, film and walking the jam-packed streets of downtown Austin. It was a lot of fun but going to bed no earlier than 2am and waking up no later than 8am for 10 days was totally exhausting. I wish I had another week to recover.

Right after their set at the Kate Spade pop-up shop, I photographed Vivian Girls for Refinery 29.

Loretta Flower

There's something really peaceful and fun about shooting flowers. Especially getting to work with Mary Kathryn of Loretta Flower. She's a really cool girl with a wild style of arranging flowers and a great eye for styling. I've gotten to help her out with a few Design*Sponge columns shot at Elizabeth Street Cafe and Hotel St. Cecilia. These are a few of the photos, check out the links for the full stories.

Flowers under $50

Talia

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph one of my very best friends for Refinery29 when I was in my home town of Miami last month. Talia and I first met in chorus class in high school (I was a freshman, she was a senior) we hit it off from the first day and have been best friends ever since. She's an amazing artist and is one of the most stylish girls I know. You can see the sneak peek into her studio and home HERE.

Worst Tattoo in Austin Competition

Thursday night I shot the second annual Worst Tattoo in Austin Competition. There were so many awesomely bad tattoos, quite a few were totally unpublishable,  the ones that were made it in a photo essay on CultureMap Austin. I learned some lessons that night: Never get a tattoo when you're drunk and never let a friend (no matter how good or how artistic) give you a tattoo.
